In 1983 the show changed its name to BASEL plus two numerals denoting the exhibition year– Basel 83. In 1986, Basel 86 allowed companies from outside Europe for the first time. In 1999, the official opening of the new watch hall, Hall 1, covering 2 × 18,000 m2 was constructed. In 2003, a new offical name was introduced–Baselworld, the World and Jewellery Show. Baselworld witnessed the most remarkable moment as becoming the leading world show in the luxury goods industry. A new hall complex is converted into the "Hall of Universe", Hall 6, which made the area expand to 160,000 m2.
